Broward Health is a Network of Hospitals and Medical Centers

8

Broward Health is one of Florida’s most extensive public multi-hospital healthcare systems, boasting an expansive network of hospitals, medical centers, and ancillary facilities that deliver world-class care with a commitment to clinical excellence.

Broward Health is dedicated to offering affordable healthcare to its community. They provide various programs such as social services, behavioral health counseling, dental care, and nutrition education.

Community Health Services

Community health services assist people in managing their illnesses by educating them about leading healthier lifestyles, offering support services, and connecting them to vital resources. These programs often help populations at increased risk or experiencing barriers to care, promoting health education and advocacy for local communities. Joining one is also ideal for students interested in healthcare administration, public health, or health promotion careers.

Community health centers (CHCs) are non-profit corporations that offer low-cost medical, dental, and vision care. Most insurance plans accept them; those without health coverage can pay on a sliding fee scale or opt-out altogether. There may also be telehealth services available at some centers. Community health centers can be invaluable resources during an outbreak like COVID-19 by providing access to care for individuals unable to reach regular doctors’ offices for services they may need.

CHC provides health and social services to vulnerable populations, such as those living in poverty, who face various issues that impact their physical and mental well-being. These programs often assist participants with overcoming barriers that prevent active participation in their care; this may reduce emergency hospital visits and prescription costs significantly.

CHCs are essential to our health and social care system but often lack the workforce or funding required to deliver services closer to home. The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated how flexible and resilient CHCs are; further investment from NHS could strengthen them.

The South Broward Community Health Hub Collaboration is an initiative of the South Broward Hospital District and various local organizations and members to address health disparities.
